/// About the Studio · How it came together
Electrical Audio Recording opened in 1997 as Steve Albini's home base. An industrial warehouse in the heart of Chicago was rebuilt, room by room, primarily by Steve's friends — many of them tradesmen musicians in between tours who were (and are) integral parts of the Midwest's hardworking underground music scene.
The result? A recording studio that caters specifically to musicians and engineers, with a natural, comfortable, and accommodating environment in which they can create — one that grew rapidly into a choice destination for artists worldwide who want to record their music to their own specifications.
Two acoustically distinct studios and a deep, carefully maintained arsenal of gear — available with every booking. Plus dedicated lounges, a kitchen, and on-site offices for out-of-town clients.
The Rooms Two world class recording studios with impeccable acoustics and comfortable recording environments. Built for live performance, but suitable for anything.
The Arsenal A deep, deliberately curated arsenal. Loads of carefully maintained, top-quality vintage and modern equipment.
I'm very pleased that we were able to make a studio that has survived as a resource, for all the people in the music scene that I consider my brothers and sisters.
