Internships

What We Do
Our programs are designed to meet musicians and engineers wherever they are — from a first rehearsal in a borrowed amp, to a finished record, to a career in the craft.
Core Programs
Hands-on learning in music engineering. Interns work alongside experienced engineers, inheriting the techniques and ethical standards Steve passed down to everyone who came through Electrical Audio.
Professional recording access regardless of ability to pay. A combination of paid sessions and charitable waivers keeps the door open to independent musicians at every career stage.
Instruments, amplifiers, microphones, and cables available with studio bookings — so an artist's kit is never the reason a record doesn't get made.
Dedicated, acoustically treated spaces for individuals and small groups to develop their craft — by the hour, the day, or the project.
Connecting new and young musicians — especially in under-resourced neighborhoods — to form bands, create together, and record their first songs.
Regular opportunities for artists to perform, share works-in-progress, and build confidence in front of a welcoming audience.
Collaborations with local music nonprofits, schools, and community groups to extend outreach and education beyond our walls.
Inspiring creativity across media — books, podcasts, audiobooks, and video — for artists whose voice reaches beyond a song.
Curated displays and educational tours of Electrical Audio, preserving Steve's work, writing, and the craft of analog recording for future generations.
I'm very pleased that we were able to make a studio that has survived as a resource, for all the people in the music scene that I consider my brothers and sisters. Steve Albini
Who These Programs Serve
Our programs intentionally serve people who have been historically priced out, overlooked, or made to feel unwelcome in professional recording environments — including young musicians, artists from under-resourced neighborhoods, first-time engineers, and independent artists without label support. They also serve the working musicians and engineers who have been part of the Electrical Audio community for years.
If you're wondering whether a program is for you, the answer is almost certainly yes. Get in touch and we'll help you find the right fit.
Every program we offer is made possible by donors, volunteers, and partners who believe in the work.
